We already have something like that with the current implementation: FCKXml. It is targeted to XML data though, so it is certainly ready for enhancements.
Hmmm, as I don't know what functionality it provides I can't say what I'd like to see more. Perhaps documenting the FCKXml is enough?
Or look at the AJAX methods of javascript frameworks out there, maybe that brings some idea. (If I can get an idea of what the FCKXml I could do this comparison)
