Hi, all.
With MP4 and other media formats out there, when will the old "Flash" button in the CKEditor be replaced by a more general "Video" or "Movie" button that supports Flash (SWF, FLV, etc.) as well as Quicktime, MP4, and other media formats? This should be supported in the core tool without the need for extra add-ons, etc. This functionality is available in TinyMCE, for example.
If there already is a general movie button in the core tool that I'm not aware of, please let me know.
Thank you!

Re: When will the "Flash" button be replaced by "
This is good to know. CKEditor is used in various online tools for education, but professors are now generating .MP4 files not Flash files due to mobile devices that don't support Flash (e.g. iPads, iPhones, etc.). This is a critical feature, so I appreciate that it's on your feature list. Hopefully we'll see it soon!
Thanks again.

Re: When will the Flash button be replaced by Media or Video
Hi, just checking back in to see if there's a roadmap or target for 4.1 or a version with a built-in media option to replace Flash and support files like .MP4 or YouTube links.
This is a frequent inquiry at our university, that's why I am checking in to see if there's any news.
Thanks!
Re: When will the "Flash" button be replaced by "Media"
Hi, all. It's been over a year, so I am circling back to see the status on replacing the "Flash" button with a "Media" or "Movie" button. When I went to the "demo" for the full featured option, I still see the flash icon but not a movie/media icon. I also searched the release notes and didn't see it listed as a feature in the 4.x series (but maybe I missed it!).
I was grateful to hear it was planned for the next release (in 2012) but not sure if it ever made it in. Curious to know where this is on the roadmap for built-in, out-of-the-box inclusion.
Thank you!
It's on our wish-list for 4.4
It's on the 4.4 wish-list. It was sidetracked in favor of things like inline editing, ACF, Widgets, etc. There's already a few alternatives in the add-ons repository so there's no rush. If it does come out it would likely be a widget.

The fact is that there was a
The fact is that there was a perfectly valid Video plugin for CKEditor 3, but due to these kind of statements that CKSource might release their own version soon, and the people that are unwilling to use any third party plugins I stopped updating it.
So if instead of requesting to handle Video in the core you had used that plugin and said "thanks", you would have been using it all this time instead of waiting even more time until the 4.4 release (and in the end the code will be just another plugin, the only difference will be that some people have been using that feature for a long time)

I would love to see a better option for posting videos. I am just converting from TinyMCE and as far as I can see, this is the major downside to CKEditor. In TinyMCE, I can just paste the address of the Youtube video, and it will automatically pick up the size of the video and set the width and height accordingly. The plugins for CKEditor all have their limitations. Any news on this?
