Visibility of protected tags

Does anyone happen to have any idea whether it is possible to make protected code (e.g. <%example%>) visible in WYSIWYG mode. I don't mean the code itself (it only makes sense to edit it in the "view source" mode) but an icon or something that would keep the admin aware of the fact that there is some content at all - at this point, you cannot be sure whether you have deleted the protected code content or not while using the wysiwyg mode.
