A recent update to Basecamp has given their product a sleek minimal rich text editor. I love the way it is so minimal that is almost feels like a text area plus just a bit extra. I thought about using their open source WYSIHAT software (as that is what they are using) but I love the fact that ckeditor is so out-of-the-box and well tested over the years to cover just about any corner case.
So since CKEditor is so customizable I figured perhaps it would be easiest to just hack CKEditor to support the look that I want. In less than an hour I think I was able to duplicate it pretty closely. If anybody is wanting to do the same I have put the relevant code on the following Gist:

P.S. Anybody else find it odd that this forum doesn't use CKEditor. I know they are just using an out-of-the-box forum system but still.....
