Make image dialogs non-modal

Hi all,

does anyone know if it's possible to configure the image dialog to be a floating window, ie
non-modal? I would like to add drag&drop support for an existing media library, and
when the dialog is modal, i can't drop anything into the dialogs.

Also, is it possible to extend the image dialog without hacking into the source code of it?

We would simply need an extra input field as a drop-area for images, the rest could be
done via javascript/jquery.
