KCFinder Project?

I stumbled across a project called "KCFinder" which is purportedly an "open source alternative" to CKFinder. Does anyone know if this project is legitimate?

I'm considering integrating CKEditor into a GPLv2 project, and I cannot obviously use CKFinder (because of the licensing restrictions). I'm considering putting KCFinder into this project (as it's reporting itself to be GPL).

However, if KCFinder is simply ripping off CKFinder and isn't a legitimate project then I want nothing to do with it. Just wanted to check with the community here and see if anyone knows anything about it.
