IE8 relative links issue

Relative urls should be changed into absolute/full urls when copying/pasting from another website or the same

website which does not appear to be working on IE8 only (Tested on IE6 & FireFox and it appears to be working fine)

Example:
Website has the following url: somefile.php?id=10
when copying this url and pasting it into the editor I am expecting the full url to be in place

e.g.: http://www.fullwebsiteurl.com/dir/somefile.php?id=10

Any idea on how to get this problem resolved?

Changing the urls for the entire website is not an option though
