I am looking for a editing tool that will help me with a web project for customizing greeting cards in a WYSIWUG interface and I need to know if CKEditor can help me with the following requirements:
1. Edit the text in-place on the card - I would probably need to instantiate the editor over the surface of the card and configure the editor with a transparent background so the user appears to by typing directly on the greeting card surface.
2. Toolbar separated from the editor - To satisfy requirement #1 above I would need the toolbar buttons to reside somewhere else on the page (not on the card with the editor).
3. Custom fonts - I need to be able to display licensed designer fonts (or reasonable facsimiles)
4. Leading/Kerning - I need leading and kerning tools
Thanks for your help!

Re: CKEditor suitable for online greeting card app?
2. Yes, there's a sample that shows how to use the toolbar location option.
3. Again this is possible and you can find some examples, after all you just need to put the correct rules in your stylesheet.
4. This is quite complex, but not because of the editor, but because of HTML and CSS. Until recently I don't think that this was possible at all and I think that now some browsers have started supporting it, but as I say this is not a question about the editor but about the environment.
Re: CKEditor suitable for online greeting card app?
Messing with the HTML and CSS to create transparency and other customization will be no problem for me. I just want to make sure that I don't embark on customization that becomes so complex that I end up wishing I had just implemented a custom solution in the first place. That doesn't sound like the case here.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure if I would use CKeditor for the first time with your requirements
But I also don't know what else I would use instead
