As you may already know, the new editor name has been chosen: CKEditor.
Our 2.x branch will continue been named FCKeditor. The CKEditor name will be used for the 3.x release.
Now, following the name change, other things need our attention. First of all, our new domain name.
I've already bought the following domains:
- ckeditor.com
- ckeditor.net
- ckeditor.org
For FCKeditor, we have always used the .net domain. We were forced to do that, because the .com name where already bought by someone else at the moment of our site release, and I was able to get the .com domain only later.
It is fashionable in the OSS world to use .org domain. But, there is no Foundation behind CKEditor, make it a bit senseless.
I would be opting for the .com one. People is just used to it. They just type http://www.anysite.com in their browsers when they don't know the URL, and the chance to catch it is usually high.
Then, another tendency is avoiding using the "www" prefix/subdomain. I also like this thing, it makes the URL shorter and clear. The final result:
http://ckeditor.com
Then, following it, we would have:
http://docs.ckeditor.com
http://dev.ckeditor.com
http://blog.ckeditor.com
So, how do you see this URL?
Re: CKEditor: The new domain name
As Fred stated correctly, the editor is not a NPO, additionally there is a commercial license. I would heavily discourage .org
.net is inappropriate too since this is not a network whatsoever.
ckeditor.com sounds great and is quite short.

Re: CKEditor: The new domain name
Perhaps .os, .code, .dev, something like that...

Re: CKEditor: The new domain name
I know there aren't, I was just suggesting there should be!

There are some quite ridiculous tlds like .biz, .museum, .coop, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.aero - you'd have thought that the development community would by now have got one for themselves? Who do we need to petition?
Actually I just looked this up, and it's ICANN.

I think it depends on how much money you have in your pocket.

Re: CKEditor: The new domain name
Since you already have the domains, just point all three to the site and you're good to go.
If you choose not to use "www", then you should still support it for those that type it in, but then you can redirect to the non-www version.
Thanks for letting me share.
Re: CKEditor: The new domain name
Extremely good point. I would favorize http://www.ckeditor.org too
