I just installed the very latest CKeditor 3.6.3 to replace FCKeditor 2.6.6 that I had been using for several years. On IE9 the icons in the toolbar do not display and was hoping that CKeditor would fix that. It does not.
All these icons display just fine in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on my windows Vista PC. When I roll my mouse over the toolbar in IE9 the icons appear and as soon as my mouse rolls off them they disappear again.
Any ideas? I am using sending <!DOCTYPE HTML> at the top of the HTML output that includes the editor. I don't have an example to show you that is not password-protected, sorry. Thanks for the help.

There, it is the same behaviour like tunedin described in his posting. And not only that.
When klicking and moving inside of the text area, the parts of the text or the whole text just disappear. Moving the mouse or klicking inside of the text area, brings it back again at some point. Text and icons disapear, then again appear and so on. Try to klick on the picture inside of the text area - then all the text disapears!
I'm using Windows 7 and IE 9.0.8112.16421
Actually I noticed this using ckeditor plugin for grails. Then I went to your home page, tried your demo - exactly the same happens.
With Windows XP and IE 8 everything works fine.

Thanks all for looking into this. Seems to be a bit of a mystery. Here is the URL to my style sheet http://www.tunedinweb.com/common/styles/tunedin.css, but I ran my program without the style sheet and get the same behavior from IE9.
I also tried the ckeditor demo http://ckeditor.com/demo and it is behaving just like the problem I reported. My IE version is 9.0.8112.16421

As I said, I've tested with that same version and it works fine for me (and for many others using IE9), do you have any special add-on installed?
Have you changed the security settings or something else?
Can you try to reset the IE settings to the default values?

IE9 giving me problems too. Fresh install, no addons... nada!
Maybe it is the design in IE9 code messing with the website?

I got the same problem, and users keep reporting it to
