Well, I have just downloaded and installed both current versions of mediawiki and FCKeditor ... I have followed all the steps on the mediawiki article http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/FCKeditor twice when installing FCKeditor so I'm sure I didn't missed anything. I have already edited LocalSettings.php and the other files.
For some strange reason the FCKeditor isn't showing up when editing an article , the wikimedia editor is still appearing ... and no matter if I put the Magic Words or not the FCKeditor still doesn't show up ...
I have already tested the FCKeditor/_samples/default.html and it seems to work just fine ...
The only clue I have is that when I change the $wgFCKUseEditor to true the headings got messed up ... it's almost like the wiki markups and codes no longer were being understood ...
Is there any other configuration I have to make beside the ones explained on the wikimedia article ?

Re: Mediawiki 1.7.1 + FCK 2.3.1
That's exactly my situation.

Did you found the solution?
Or anyone else has an idea after a month of thinking about it?
Re: Mediawiki 1.7.1 + FCK 2.3.1
There are two (or perhhaps there were even more) projects that provides wysiwyg support in Mediawiki (using FCKeditor).
Only one works with wiki syntax (= everyting what you create is converted to wiki syntax, not HTML) and has been tested with Mediawiki 1.10/1.11, this extension isn't listed on MediaWiki site yet:
http://mediawiki.fckeditor.net/index.php/Main_Page
The other extension you may be referring to is:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:FCKeditor
If you are using the second one, please ask it's author for support.
